My minstry here has been an exciting one! Exciting because I never know what God is going to do next. It seems like every week is full of all sorts of divine appointments, where I am privileged to connect with all kinds of people and watch the Lord change them. That is what we are all about here at Menchville. Changed lives through a radical belief in Jesus Christ. We highly value creativity, since we serve a creative God and we like to do things differently here.
I have a precious wife named Vicki, who is my rock, and has walked with me in ministry for many years. I also have two beautiful grown daughters, April and Brooke.
So that is a little of who I am and what makes me tick.
"Hey y'all! When you meet me you'll definitely know I'm not from around here. And I'm proud to tell you I'm a Carolina boy, raised in Stony Point, NC.
I feel so blessed by God to live the life I live. I'm a happy husband to my wife, Sarah, and we have 4 kids (well, she technically has 5, including me), Joey, Peter, Gracie and Davy who I absolutely adore.
God called me into ministry while I was still in high school. I honestly didn't want to be in ministry but the Lord stayed on me until I accepted His call and now I can't imagine what I'd do other than minisrty. I love ministering to students and being around students. They have an enthusiasm that cannot be matched and my heart's desire is to see them passionate about loving Jesus and loving others.
I'd love to talk with you more about student ministry, so stop by my office and stay awhile. I might even pour you a tall glass of Southern sweet tea!
Or send me an email at email@example.com.
Minister to Children and Famililies
I was born and raised in Kentucky and lived there my entire life until God called my family and I here at the end of 2016. I met my wife, Brooke, in 2012 and we were married the following year. I have always said she is my greatest blessing and has been my greatest supporter and encourager these past few years. In October of 2016, we had our first child, our son Ben. Life has certainly changed since he has arrived, but he has taught us so much about what it means to love and how much God loves us.
I finished my Master's Degree in Pastoral Counseling through Liberty University earlier in 2016, and immediately began looking for the area and church family God was leading us toward. It was not long until he revealed that Newport News, VA was that place and Menchville Baptist Church was that family. Since the first time I visited the church, I have always found it welcoming and filled with people who love each other and love God. I hope that you have found that to be true as well, and if you have never been then perhaps it is what you have been looking for in a church home and community.
I have always loved working with kids. Much of my work history has revolved around working with troubled youth in after school programs and group homes, so I have gotten to see up close and personal the struggles that our children face today. I love seeing children grow, learn and begin to become the men and woman God has created them to be. I am encouraged about all that God has done/is doing and I am excited to see what God has in store for the future here at Menchville Baptist. If you are a parent of a child, I hope that you find it a welcoming, encouraging place for your child where they can learn more about God and what it means to love others the way God loves us and how we are to live each day as we walk with Him.
Other than working with kids, I am a huge sports fan. Being from Kentucky, I am a UK Wildcats fanatic though I can pretty much watch any sport at any time (just ask Brooke). I love to problem solve, meet interesting people and learn more about them and also like to get a little artsy from time to time.
You might say that I am home grown. I am a native of Newport News, graduated from Menchville High School, and was raised at Menchville Baptist. After I married in 1979, I left Menchville and then the Lord led my husband, Mike, and I back here in the early 1990's. In 1997, I was blessed to be hired as the Church Secretary and then later as Church Administrator, where I am responsible for administration and facility operations just to name a few hats that I wear. I often describe my job as "the dot connector , details, details, details."
My husband and I are parents to three adult children, parents-in-law to a son and daughter-in-law, and grandparents to seven grandchildren, with Bonito, our pet Pug completing the family circle.
Anyone who knows me knows that I appreciate conversation over a good cup of "strong" black coffee...or for that matter I enjoy conversation with or without the coffee. The next best thing I enjoy with my coffee is a good book.
I have a passion for sharing Jesus with others and encouraging others in their faith. It is a blessing and a priviledge to be able to work and serve our Lord at Menchville Baptist.
Communications Manager/Ministry Assistant
I was born and raised in the Hampton Roads area, living most of my life, thus far, in Newport News. I am married to Will and we have one son and a wonderful daughter-in-law. We also share our home with Bailey, a lab/retriever mix, who doesn't know that she's a dog!
I love to laugh and sometimes find humor where others may not, which has earned me a frown or two.
Some of the things you'll find me working on are the website, Facebook page, newsletter, bulletin, prayerlist (basically anything printed) and promotional materials for studies and events.
I love discovering new things about the Lord as He reveals them to me. It never gets old being His child.
